Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “önemsiz sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bentlanmasıyla oluşan kısaltarak polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lafıntısı ile öbürü arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok skorda polipeptit alt birimi çitndırır). Anayasa ayrım peptitlerin kısaltarak, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, gayrı amino asite daimî, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bentlanır. Polipeptid bünyesına tıkızlan amino asitlerin her biri bünyeya peptid bentlarıyla bentlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir sutaş çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, takribî 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine tıkızlan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, özgür amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin gayrı ucundaki özgür α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
